The Future Of Machine Shops With EU Automation

To adapt in a post-COVID industry, machine shop owners must be ready to embrace lean manufacturing principles and combine these with piecemeal upgrades of their legacy equipment.

Machine shops trace their origins to the first Industrial Revolution. Like many in the manufacturing industry, these facilities are now looking for ways to adapt to the fourth Industrial Revolution Aka Industry 4.0. In this article, we will be covering what the machine shops of the future will look like and how industrial leaders can begin to adapt to these changes.

Getting Smarter

Two years ago, at the start of the pandemic, I first wrote about the latest challenges facing machine shops, specifically the potential impact of new technologies and the management of obsolete technologies on shop floors. Looking back, things didn’t get any easier.

Manufacturers across the region faced various challenges — Asian factories have been hit by rising infections, increased input costs and materials shortages. As the old saying goes: “adapt or die”, and, as we enter 2022, machine shop owners have a unique opportunity to start anew.
