Introducing sophisticated digital interface solutions that reduce development time and cost

ANCA, a market leader in CNC grinding machines who is this year celebrating 50 years of innovation, and Tetralytix, a developer of simulation software for superior metal cutting technology, are pleased to announce their strategic collaboration in the field of virtual design for cutting tools.

This partnership leverages the combined expertise of both companies to offer unique capabilities for the development of superior precision cutting tools and enhancing metal cutting technology.

The collaboration integrates ANCA’s expertise in virtual modelling of tool geometries and industry-revolutionising CIM3D tool verification software with Tetralytix’s expertise in technological analysis through Toolyzer, a simulation tool for designing and optimising cutting tools. An interface between CIM3D and Toolyzer will enable cutting tools to be developed faster and more cost-effectively, providing significant benefits to tool manufacturers.

“ANCA welcomes this partnership as it signals our commitment to empowering our customers with the most advanced and powerful software tools available. By working together, we’re ensuring that cutting tool manufacturers have everything they need to innovate, optimise, and stay ahead in a rapidly evolving industry,” said Martin U. Ripple CEO at ANCA.

Dr.-Ing. Arne Mücke, Managing Director, Tetralytix, added, “The partnership with ANCA is a significant step towards creating added value and competitive advantages for our customers. The cooperation will make the benefits of digital cutting tool development visible in an unprecedented way”.

“ANCA understands the constant challenges for tool designers for achieving longer tool life and the demands to cut newer materials. With this partnership, our customers can seamlessly design a tool and access cutting analyses even before the first test cut. When ANCA first introduced CIM3D, customers couldn’t believe the sophistication of the solution and this is now the next revolutionary step in reducing tool development time and cost,” said Santosh Plakkat, Product Manager, ANCA.

This strategic cooperation is a significant step forward for the development of cutting tools, offering considerable cost advantages for both standard and special tools. The reduction in time-consuming, manual work to prepare digital tool models for simulation also significantly shortens development times.

Untapping development potential to optimise tool design

Testing multiple tool prototypes is time-consuming and cost-intensive, ANCA and Tetralytix recognise that the time has come to leverage this potential with the help of a continuous interface from tool modelling to simulation.

The tool is designed using ANCA’s iGrind software and can then be used seamlessly in Toolyzer for analysis.

Within a brief time, performance conclusions can be drawn, and recommendations for improving the tool geometry can be derived. This enables users to determine whether a tool prototype meets the requirements even before it is produced for the first time.

Morf3D, a subsidiary of Nikon Corporation, helps clients realize the potential of additive manufacturing in a new age of aerospace innovation. SLM Solutions is an integrated solutions provider and metal additive manufacturing partner. The cooperation underscores both SLM Solution’s and Morf3D’s commitment to further advance the industrialisation of Additive Manufacturing(AM) technology as well as to streamline and accelerate serial production lines across the globe. Such industry partnerships aim to significantly scale AM production repeatability and quality to new heights.

The mission of Morf3D’s new headquarters is to leverage partner networks that will transform supply chain norms and develop the industry’s first certified production system to accelerate the industrialisation of Digital Manufacturing. The addition of the 2 SLM®500s and the NXG XII 600 will support Morf3D’s goal of ramping up a global production setup while improving production lead time, order flexibility, cost efficiency, and quality.

SLM®500 is the best performing, most efficient system in its class, and it is designed to ensure operator safety and lower overall operational costs. The first quad-laser metal system on the market, SLM®500 can integrate lasers independently or in parallel to increase build rates by 90% over twin laser configuration. NXG XII 600 on the other hand, is an industry gamechanger equipped with 12 1KW lasers, making it the fastest commercial machine on the market. It’s designed to be used in serial production for high-volume applications as well as for printing large parts. It’s capable of printing at speeds 20x faster than that of a single laser system and 5x faster than a 4-laser machine. Enabling acceleration in AM at every angle, the NXG XII 600 is the modern day “da vinci”, crafting masterpieces at serial production scale.

“Our partnership with SLM Solutions dramatically shifts the landscape of serial production enabling our customers to achieve unmatched levels of quality and performance,” comments Ivan Madera, CEO of Morf3D. “The NXG XII 600 platform is an engineering marvel that addresses many aspects of a production-ready system. Our goal is to accelerate the qualification process by collaborating on new application development and part certification within the aerospace, space, and defense market.”

Sam O’Leary, CEO of SLM Solutions, is enthusiastic about the partnership, citing the increase in efficiency and productivity as the key benefits for all partners. “Adding the NXG Xll 600 to Morf3D’s SLM Solutions’ machines to the ADMC bolsters the collective digital manufacturing ecosystem, helping to improve production speed, quality, and automation.”

Next to the supply of machines, SLM Solutions will also offer on-site support in the form of education, training, and consulting.  All of ADMC’s research and development partners will also have access to collective training, meeting, and gathering spaces for customer events and business development efforts. Sam O’Leary, adds: “We are united in our customer-first approach, which reflects the training and education we provide to all of our partners.”

The machines will be delivered to Morf3D’s new state-of-the-art headquarters, in Long Beach, California, in 2022. This partnership strengthens the international impact of Additive Manufacturing solutions.

Seco Tools Expands Digital Services With Strategic Partnerships

Seco Tools Expands Digital Services with Strategic Partnerships

Seco Tools has expanded its portfolio of digital services in collaboration with online Lean management training platform 7-Shapes and Automated Process Control (APC) software provider Ellistat.

Seco Tools leverages more than eight decades of manufacturing experience to address issues beyond the cutting tool. In collaboration with partners who are leaders and experts in their respective fields, Seco ensures that customers can access the best solutions to challenges on their journey to operational excellence.

These partnerships enrich the Seco portfolio in employee training and machine setup, major concerns for customers who face labour shortages and the skills gap. “This is the next step in a customer centric approach,” said Helga Dekempeneer, Director of Seco Manufacturing Transformation. “Our educational process focuses on machining itself and the physics and economics related with it, so these partnerships complement what we offer.”

The 7-Shapes online training platform offers 24/7 access to Lean management courses for operators, managers and engineers, with courses ranging from White Belt to Green Belt. Trainees test theoretical knowledge through a game-like interactive simulation of a virtual factory.

“This partnership is a great opportunity to offer Seco customers a whole new way to learn about operational excellence,” said Julien Charles, CEO of 7-Shapes. “We share the same vision: Whether you are an operator, a manager, or an engineer, your contribution is important, and you must have all the tools in hand to give your best.”

One-step machine-tool setup with precise process control
Ellistat provides APC software for one-step machine setup with greater precision than traditional SPC or manual methods. APC limits process drift, and the system learns from its corrections to improve over time. With complete integration into the digital chain, the system compares data from a measuring machine with a corresponding 3D part file, calculates corrections and feeds them back into the machining centre.

Davy Pillet, CEO of Ellistat, stated that “We are very pleased to develop this partnership with Seco, combining the best of both worlds – knowledge of physical cutting tools and expertise with digital tools such as machine learning – to automate critical processes.”
