Siemens Invests In New Materials Solutions Facility

Worcester, UK: Siemens is investing 27 million euros (US$35.5 million) in a new manufacturing facility for its UK-based additive manufacturing (AM) business.

With the opening of Materials Solutions Limited’s new site in September 2018, its number of AM machines will increase from 15 to 50 over the next five years. The expansion of the business is also expected to support the creation of around 55 new jobs, increasing the company’s team to 80.

The plant uses Siemens’ Digital Enterprise  solutions, which is an end-to-end portfolio comprising software-based systems and automation components. Juergen Maier, chief executive officer, Siemens UK, commented that an investment of such scale indicates their belief that there is a lot of promise for growth and innovation in the sector of additive manufacturing. He also sees it as the next move towards becoming pioneers in industrialising 3D printing.

Materials Solutions also offers comprehensive services ranging from engineering and printing up to the complete manufacturing of parts for the aviation industry, the automotive industry, power generation and motorsports. The new facility will be essential for the business and act as the launch pad for its plans to grow globally.
