Vienna, affectionately known as the “Capital of Classical Music”, holds a special place in the hearts of musicians as it was here where composers like Mozart, Haydn, Schubert, and Beethoven established their musical careers. Beethoven said of this city, “Perhaps heaven will permit me not to have to give up Vienna as my permanent abode.” Countless other composers and musicians have at one point called Vienna home as it has continued to embrace its musical tradition and propel classical music into the present day and future.
The history of music in the Czech region is one of diversity and influence. Beethoven, Mozart, Vivaldi, Gluck, Tchaikovsky, and Mahler, were among the many artistic guests from across the European continent to visit Prague in order to draw inspiration from this musical Mecca, as well as seek fame by having their works premiered before the shrewd musical public in this great center of European musical life. There is no better place in the world to celebrate Beethoven’s historic 250th birthday than Vienna and Prague!
